About Us

As native Iowans, we never had to look far to find quality, corn-fed meat. So when we moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1987, you can imagine our surprise to find no local butchers and limited meat selections at our grocery stores. To us, quality meat was more than the center of a great meal; it was the heart of family gatherings, a way of showing friends and loved ones that they were special and welcome in our home.

With over 35 years in the meat business, Roger and I decided to open Midwestern Meats; a family owned and operated meat shop, offering the finest quality meats, including Iowan-only corn-fed beef. In 1990, we opened our original 1,200 square foot shop and within 6 years we grew into a 5,500 square foot space. We have a 34-foot meat counter with over 100 items of high-quality, specialty meats to choose from! But don’t worry, you can rely on our expert staff of Meat Specialists to help you select the right meats

and offer preparation ideas, you can even call them once your home if you need extra help. And if you drop by on a Friday or Saturday you’ll see our staff wearing traditional meat shop attire, from crisp white shirts to black bow ties.

In the spirit of great food, we decided to open Midwestern Bakery in 1996. This is one of the few full-service, scratch bakeries in the Valley, and boasts homemade, fresh baked goods. With the success of our meat shop and bakery, our loyal and growing customer base urged us to open a restaurant. Midwestern Steakhouse opened in 1999 and features no-nonsense, comfort cooking including our select meats, simple side dishes and the finest desserts from our bakery. Our restaurant is open 7 days a week, features weekly specials and a Sunday “breakflunch”, a hearty, homemade approach to brunch!

ing bookkeeping and all of the numerous other tasks of a small business owner. Although we now have a wonderful group of employees to rely on, we still have our hearts in it. This is why remaining family owned and operated is so important to us. If you visit any of our shops, bakery or restaurant, you are bound to run into us, you may even find Roger filling in for a valet at the restaurant! You’ll also meet our son, Rod, who will help you with any needs you may have.

Throughout the years, our business philosophy has remained the same; offer only the highest quality products, provide them at fair prices and treat your customers like family. We are deeply committed to our customers, and though things have change quite a bit from the original meat shop, our hope is that you will always feel at home in our stores.
